How can I create a flywheel in PowerPoint for my presentation design?

A group of four professionals having a discussion in a modern office. A man with glasses working on a laptop, a woman with a bob haircut, a woman with curly hair holding a device, and another man are seated around the table. The atmosphere is focused and collaborative as they review their pitch deck.

A flywheel is a circular diagram often used in business presentations to represent continuous processes or cycles. Here’s how to create one in PowerPoint:

Step 1: Create the Circular Base of the Flywheel

  1. Insert a Circle:
    • Go to the Insert tab, click Shapes, and choose the Oval shape.
    • Hold the Shift key while dragging to create a perfect circle.
  2. Duplicate the Circle:
    • Copy and paste (Ctrl + C, Ctrl + V) the circle to create additional concentric circles if you want layers within your flywheel. Resize these circles by holding Shift and dragging the corner handles.

Step 2: Divide the Circle into Segments

  1. Insert Arrows or Lines:
    • To divide the circle into multiple sections, use Insert > Shapes > Line or Arrow.
    • Draw lines from the center of the circle outward to create segments.
    • You can also use the Arc shape to divide the circle into curved sections.
  2. Adjust Arrow Directions:
    • Rotate the arrows or lines by selecting them and dragging the rotation handle (circular arrow above the shape).
    • Make sure the lines divide the circle evenly to create visually balanced segments.

Step 3: Customize the Flywheel

  1. Add Text to Segments:
    • Click Insert > Text Box, then place text inside each segment of the flywheel to represent the different stages or processes.
  2. Format Shapes and Text:
    • Customize the colors, fills, and outlines by selecting the shapes and using the Format tab.
    • Adjust font size, color, and style to ensure readability.

Step 4: Add Animation (Optional)

  1. Animate the Flywheel:
    • Go to the Animations tab to apply animations, like Spin, to make the flywheel rotate or reveal each section in a sequence.

This creates a dynamic visual representation of a continuous process or cycle.
