Creating a PowerPoint template from an existing presentation is a straightforward process that can save you a lot of time in future presentations. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to do this:
- Open the Presentation: Open the PowerPoint presentation that you want to convert into a template.
- Save as Template: Click on ‘File’ in the top left-hand corner of the screen, then select ‘Save As’. In the dialog box that appears, choose ‘PowerPoint Template (*.potx)’ from the ‘Save as type’ dropdown menu. Save the template in the designated Templates folder in your system, or in a location where you can easily find it later.
- Modify Slide Master: If you want to make global changes to your template, switch to Slide Master view by clicking on the ‘View’ tab, then ‘Slide Master’. Here, you can edit the layout, background design, color scheme, fonts, and more. Any changes you make in the Slide Master view will be applied to all slides in the template.
- Save and Close: Once you’ve made all the changes, click ‘File’ > ‘Save’ to save them. Then close the Slide Master view by clicking on ‘Close Master View’ in the Slide Master tab. Your PowerPoint presentation is now saved as a template.
- Use the Template: To use your newly created template for a new presentation, click ‘File’ > ‘New’ > ‘Custom’ > ‘Custom Office Templates’, then select your template from the list.
Keep in mind that when you create a template from an existing presentation, it will only contain the layout, colors, fonts, effects, background styles, and content placeholders. It will not include any actual content from the original presentation.
