Custom motion paths are a feature available in PowerPoint that allows you to dictate the trajectory or route that an object will take around the slide. This can be used to animate images, text boxes, shapes, or other objects, creating a dynamic and engaging presentation.
To create a custom motion path, follow these steps:
- Select the object you want to animate. You can do this by clicking on the object.
- Go to the Animations tab in the PowerPoint toolbar.
- In the Advanced Animation group, select Add Animation.
- From the drop-down menu, select More Motion Paths…
- In the Add Motion Path dialog box, scroll down and select Custom Path.
- Upon selecting, your cursor will change into a crosshair. You can now draw your desired path directly onto the slide. Click and hold the left mouse button to draw the path. Release the button to finish.
- Once you’ve drawn your path, press Enter or double-click to set it.
After creating the custom motion path, you can further adjust it. If you want to move the entire path, click on it to select it, and then drag it to the desired location. If you want to adjust the path’s shape, click on it and then on the individual points that appear along the path. You can then drag these points to adjust the path’s trajectory.
Remember that the custom motion path is just one type of animation you can add to your objects. You can also apply entrance, exit, and emphasis effects to further enhance your presentation’s impact.
PowerPoint’s custom motion paths can be a powerful tool in your presentation toolkit. They can help you guide your audience’s attention, illustrate processes or journeys, and add an element of surprise or delight to your slides.
